Preparing Your Pet for Surgery:

Essential Guidelines

When preparing your beloved companion for pet surgery , it’s crucial to follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe procedure. Proper preparation can significantly impact the success of the surgery and the comfort of your pet.

Night Before Surgery

To prepare your pet for surgery, please pick up food after 10 pm the night before the procedure.  Your pet may have water overnight, but please pick up the water in the morning

Medication Instructions

It’s important to consult your veterinarian about whether your pet should continue taking any regular medications on the day of the procedure. Typically, we prescribe medications to alleviate stress and nausea associated with anesthesia. Gabapentin is often given to help reduce stress, and Cerenia is used to manage nausea. Administer these medications as directed before bringing your pet in for their procedure.

Drop-off Time

The standard drop-off time for surgical procedures is between 8:15 and 9:15 am, unless otherwise specified. A specific drop-off time will be discussed when scheduling your pet’s surgery. Adhering to the drop-off time ensures that the procedure can proceed as planned without unnecessary delays.

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Work

Pre-anesthetic blood work is required on all anesthetic procedures within 30 days.  This blood work is vital for detecting infections, organ dysfunction, anemia, and coagulation issues.  This helps us ensure the safety of your pet while under anesthesia, allows us to tailor medications specifically for your pet, and ensures a smooth recovery.

Post-Operative Care

We offer post-operative laser therapy for most procedures. Laser therapy provides numerous benefits, including reduced pain, faster healing, and decreased inflammation. For more information about the advantages and benefits of laser therapy  please visit our detailed guide.

Procedure Consent Forms

Prior to the day of your pet’s procedure, we will email you the necessary consent forms. We encourage you to read these forms thoroughly and contact us with any questions. Our team is here to ensure you fully understand the procedure and feel comfortable with the process.

By following these steps, you can help ensure your pet’s surgery goes smoothly and they have a swift recovery. For any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. Your pet’s health and well-being are our top priorities.
